Formation lap: Barrichello's Ferrari fails to get away in formation and has to start from the back of the field.
Lap 1 | Allan fails to start after a clutch problem causes his engine to stall. Mika is eighth at the end of the lap and crosses the line behind Montoya M Schumacher R Schumacher Raikkonen Coulthard Trulli and a fast-starting Button. |
Lap 7 | Mika loses a position to the recovering Barrichello. |
Lap 8 | Mika spins at Copse. His TF102 is not handling well as the track gets wetter. He resumes 11th behind Enrique Bernoldi. |
Lap 12 | Light drizzle that began shortly after the start intensifies. |

Lap 60 | Schumacher scores Ferrari's 12th British GP win equalling McLaren's record while Barrichello makes it another Ferrari 1-2. Montoya is third for Williams-BMW ahead of the BAR-Hondas of Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis who scored the team's first points. Nick Heidfeld completed the point scorers for Sauber. |
