Key Moments from the German Grand Prix
Lap 1 | Allan has a good start and is up to 15th. Mika crosses the line in 18th place. |
Lap 3 | Allan is down to 17th losing places to Eddie Irvine and Enrique Bernoldi. |
Lap 5 | Irvine spins and Allan moves back up to 16th. |
Lap 7 | Allan is up to 15th again as Jenson Button drops to 17th. |
Lap 9 | Mika superbly takes 17th from Button. |
Lap 15 | Jarno Trulli pits at the end of the lap. Allan is now 14th and Mika has overtaken Webber for 15th 1.3 seconds behind. At the front two successive fastest laps from Ralf Schumacher bring the Williams-BMW to within 3.4s of his brother's leading Ferrari. |
Lap 20 | Felipe Massa pit stops allowing Allan up to 13th Mika 14th. |
Lap 21 | Mika makes his first pit stop. |
Lap 23 | Allan makes his first pit stop from 13th. He suffers a hydraulic problem on rejoining and retires. |
Lap 30 | Mika is up to 12th gaining places after the first pit stops. |
Lap 34 | Half distance: Michael Schumacher leads by 3.6s from brother Ralf. Rubens Barrichello Juan Montoya David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen. |
Lap 34 | Trulli serves a drive-through penalty and Mika gains a place to 11th. |
Lap 37 | Raikkonen suffers left rear tyre failure continues back to the pits on the rim and rejoins! Trulli retires. |

Lap 51 | With all scheduled pit stops completed Mika is in 9th position chasing the Jordan Honda of Takuma Sato. |
Lap 60 | With six laps to go only 11 cars are running and Mika is ninth under pressure from Giancarlo Fisichella and Kimi Raikkonen. |
Lap 61 | Fisichella retires with a mechanical problem. |
Lap 62 | Raikkonen spins off at the last corner. |
Lap 62 | Mika is still 9th and gaining on the 8th-placed man with only 5 laps remaining. |
Lap 63 | Ralf Schumacher makes unscheduled pit stop from second place and rejoins third behind team mate Montoya. |
Lap 67 | Michael Schumacher claims his 62nd Grand Prix win ahead of both BMW Williams F1 drivers Barrichello's Ferrari Coulthard's McLaren-Mercedes and Nick Heidfeld's Sauber Petronas. Mika finished his first race since Austria in May crossing the finish line in 9th place — 10 places higher than he started. |
