Key Moments from the Hungarian Grand Prix
Lap 1 | Both Toyotas gain places at the start - Mika is 15th at the end of the lap and Allan 17th. Rubens Barrichello leads from the Schumacher brothers then Giancarlo Fisichella Felipe Massa and Jenson Button. |
Lap 19 | Mika sets personal best (25.7s) in first sector of the lap. |
Lap 24 | Mika is now 13th 1.5s ahead of De La Rosa's Jaguar which is 1.2s ahead of Allan after Jacques Villeneuve and Eddie Irvine retired. |
Lap 27 | Allan makes his first pit stop at the same time as Mark Webber. |
Lap 28 | Pedro De La Rosa still racing between the two TF102s makes his first pit stop. |
Lap 29 | Mika pits for the first time and manages to come back on track ahead of De La Rosa. |
Lap 47 | Allan who had lost a little ground has closed back to within 2.7s of Pedro de la Rosa's Jaguar and now sets a new 25.8s personal best in sector one. Mika and Allan remain 13th and 15th a lap down. |
Lap 51 | Allan makes his second pit stop. |
Lap 52 | Pit stop race as Mika and Pedro De La Rosa pit at the same time. Despite the Jaguar stop is a few tenths of a second quicker Mika just retains his position as he leaves the pit. But it's close! Allan is now 6.8s behind the Jaguar. |
Lap 77 | Rubens Barrichello takes his second win of the year followed by team mate Michael Schumacher. This one-two finish gives the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro their fourth consecutive Constructors' World Championship. Ralf Schumacher is third for BMW WilliamsF1; the West McLaren Mercedes cars of Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard are fourth and fifth; Giancarlo Fisichella takes the final point for DHL Jordan Honda. Mika finishes 13th with race-long challenger De La Rosa just half a second behind and Allan 15th right on the Jaguar's tail. |
Following the close move between Mika Salo and Pedro De La Rosa after their simultaneous second pit stop the Race Officials heard both the Panasonic Toyota Racing team and the Jaguar team's explanations. The Stewards ruled that the TF102 had left the pits in a dangerous manner and decided to impose a 25-second penalty on Mika which relegated him to 15th position in the final race classification.
