Rd.11 European Grand Prix
Who will rule on the third street circuit of the year?
The European GP will be the 11th race of 2009, held on a street circuit winding through Valencia's bay area along the Mediterranean Sea in central Spain. This will be the second F1 race held in Spain during the year. While technically a street course, the circuit in Valencia is 5.4 km in overall length, and plenty wide. Average speeds should be in excess of 190 km/h, making this particular circuit quite different from the image of narrow street courses that emphasize downforce rather than speed. Here, teams will be required to set up their cars more like how they approach permanent circuits. It will be very interesting to see how Jarno and Timo—who both scored points in last year's race here —will attack the circuit with widely altered cars and slick tires this year. Last year's race was a comparatively staid affair; but you can expect a raging battle this year.

2008 Grand Prix
The European GP was the 12th race of the 2008 season, held on August 24 for the first time ever at the Valencia street circuit. Starting from P7, Jarno was able to defend his position through the last stint, where he conserved tires and brakes, while steadily improving position to finish P5. From P13 on the grid, Timo persevered through a bout of illness, improving position during the last stint and finishing P7 to ensure a double-points finish for Panasonic Toyota Racing.
