Rd.15 Japanese Grand Prix

A first-ever podium finish in our home country race?

The Suzuka Circuit will set the stage for the Japanese GP, the 15th race of 2009. The old and narrow paddock facilities, as well as the spectator stands, have undergone a major renovation, and this will be the first F1 race at this circuit in three years. No major changes have been made to the course layout itself, so the teams should be able to use data collected during past races on this circuit. The right-left S complex demands a consistent, smooth rhythm from the drivers, but the high-speed section on the last half of the course means that teams must design a balanced setting for their cars. Due to the nature of the circuit, F1 races here are commonly nip-and-tuck affairs. As in previous years, driver skill might be the ultimate “x-factor” determining the outcome. Of course, this is a home country race for Panasonic Toyota Racing. We eagerly look forward to exciting performance from Jarno and Timo!

2008 Grand Prix

The 2008 Japanese GP was held at the Fuji Speedway on October 12. Both cars qualified in the top 10, with Jarno starting from P7 and Timo starting from P8. There was greater confusion than usual going into the first turn, which Jarno used to his advantage, moving up to P4. Unfortunately, Timo was forced back to P10 during the same incident. Both Jarno and Timo drove a spirited race in front of the throng of Japanese fans, with Jarno defending P5. Meanwhile, Timo's seat was causing serious problems, forcing a disappointing retirement from the race. Jarno maintained P5 position through to the end, capturing four championship points for the team.
