Rd.16 Brazilian Grand Prix

Another dramatic finish this year?

The Brazilian GP has been the stage for many championship-determining battles. Last year, Timo's position at the final turn of the final lap had a tremendous impact on the title chase, making for an even more exciting GP than usual. The site for the 16th race of 2009, the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace is a counter-clockwise circuit featuring many elevation changes. While most F1 circuits are raced clockwise, the last stage of the season presents many circuits that are raced the other way around. The uphill corner and long straight between the final turn and turn 1 are very tough on engines. Turn 1 is an overtaking section, but the tight downhill S curve immediately following makes this section a scene of many accidents every year. This is a course comparatively suited to Jarno's driving style, where he has finished in the points for the past two consecutive years. This year, we have even higher expectations for our Panasonic Toyota Racing drivers.

2008 Grand Prix

The 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix was the closing race of the season, held on November 2. Timo scored P10 in qualifying, and Jarno qualified P2 for the first front-row start of the season. Heavy rains poured down right before the start of the race, making for a confusing and hazardous opening stint. Both Jarno and Timo were able to make excellent progress through the first stint. Unfortunately, Jarno was trapped behind a slower car after the first pit stop, costing him on-track position. In the last stint, the rains came back with a vengeance, and all of the cars pitted in as a group for tire changes. But the decision was made to keep the two Panasonic Toyota Racing cars out on the course on dry weather tires, jumping Timo up to P6 and Jarno up to P8—a double-points finish for the team.
