Behind the Scenes at the Monaco Grand Prix

24.05.2007

Monaco, or the Principality of Monaco as it is formally known, is situated along the Cote d'Azur on the Mediterranean Coast of France. The Principality is about 30 minutes drive from the nearby Nice International Airport. Monaco flourished from ancient times as a superior natural harbor, transfigured into a luxury resort destination during the 19th century, becoming the famous Monaco of today.

The first grand prix held in Monaco was in 1929. Since 1955, the Monaco Grand Prix has been an annual fixture in the F1 World Championship. The Monaco GP is run on a temporary circuit consisting of regular public roads closed for the race. The Monaco GP is known as one of the three great races of the world (the other two being the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500), and has been the site of numerous history-making episodes. As just one example, the 1992 battle between Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell is still fresh in the memories of fans worldwide. In 2004, Jarno Trulli (driving for Renault at the time) captured the Monaco GP title.

We will be offering a special daily report between Thursday and Sunday called "Behind the Scenes at the Monaco GP," showing an insider's perspective of Panasonic Toyota Racing in Monaco (reports released the day following.)
