The Albert Park Circuit in Australia is the stage for the third grand prix race of the season. Known since 1996 as the traditional first stop in the F1 Grand Prix Series, this year the race was bumped back to number three to accommodate the Commonwealth Games. The Albert Park Circuit is an unusual course, incorporating public streets in some sections, and demanding proper car compatibility for strong race results. With few overtake areas, top qualifying position is definitely important to finish high in the points.

2005 grand prix

The 2005 F1 Grand Prix Series kicked off in an early autumn day in Melbourne on March 6. Having qualified P2, Jarno Trulli set out at exhilarating speed, chasing the leader Fisichella (Renault) throughout the first stint. After a tire change, Jarno fell off the pace due to trouble with the rear of the car. Ultimately, Jarno finished 9th and out of the points. Meanwhile, Ralf Schumacher qualified 15th and finished 12th. While Panasonic Toyota Racing could not capture any points, both cars finished the entire race, demonstrating superb reliability.
