The Imola Circuit in Italy, is the stage for the fourth round of this year's F1 Grand Prix. While the official name of the race is the "San Marino Grand Prix," the race itself is held at Imola, located in the outskirts of the Italian city of Bologna. The key for success at this difficult course which features a combination of high-speed straights and tricky chicanes is how well you can use the curbs in the corners. Additionally, since the Imola Circuit presents very few overtaking points, the pit strategy quite often decides the race result.
Last Year
On 24 April 2005, the European round began as it traditionally does with the race at Imola. Trulli, having qualified P5, rose to P4 immediately after the start. As the race wore on, however, Trulli experienced increasingly harsh oversteer, finishing 7th as he was unable to keep pace with the leaders. Meanwhile Ralf, who qualified P11, was able to improve his position and finished 8th. Unfortunately, Ralf was penalized 25 seconds for dangerous driving, and he fell in the standings accordingly. After the race, two cars from one of the other teams were disqualified, ultimately leaving Jarno and Ralf in 5th and 9th places, respectively. It was the third race in a row that Panasonic Toyota Racing was able to score points in the 2005 Formula One World Championship. |
