The Grand Prix of Hungary is the only grand prix race held in Eastern Europe. The Hungaroring serves as the stage for this race, set on a hill overlooking the suburbs about 20km outside Budapest. Known as a low-speed course, the Hungaroring is notoriously difficult for overtaking, which means qualifying figures heavily in the race final. This is the second slowest course on the F1 World Championship series, next to the Grand Prix of Monaco. As always, the race promises to be a long, tough battle, with every team taking measures to combat the mid-summer heat.

2005 grand prix

The thirteenth race of the season, the Grand Prix of Hungary was held on July 31, 2005. Both Jarno and Ralf qualified well, securing P3 and P5 on the starting grid, respectively. A three-stop strategy had been selected for both cars. In fact, Ralf's car had a slightly heavier fuel load, and Ralf moved in front of Jarno after the first pit stop. Jarno was struck by another car right at the start, causing handling problems. In the end, Ralf finished 3rd, and Jarno finished 4th. This was the first podium finish for Ralf with Panasonic Toyota Racing.
