Will Panasonic Toyota Racing overcome Istanbul's many tough corners, and come out on top?
The first-ever Grand Prix of Turkey was held 2005 year at the Istanbul Park Circuit, situated in the suburbs of Istanbul. One of the features of this ultra-modern circuit is that it is one of the few on which the race is run counterclockwise. The course has several difficult corners, including Corner 8 and its multi-apex configuration. With its many incline-decline complexes, the Istanbul circuit is one of the tougher circuits on the drivers physically.

2006 grand prix
The 14th race of 2006 was the Turkish Grand Prix, held on August 27. In qualifying, Jarno finished 12th. Ralf qualified fifth, but was penalized ten spots on the grid after changing his engine. A multi-car crash occurred immediately after the start of the race, and both Panasonic Toyota Racing cars were involved. After changing the nose section of his TF106B, Ralf switched to a one-stop strategy, recovering lost position, and finishing in the points at seventh place. Jarno also drove an aggressive race, but suffered from poor tire grip during the last stages, and finished ninth.
