Who will conquer the ultra-modern Chinese course?
The Shanghai International Circuit has hosted the Grand Prix of China since 2004. Built as a state-run enterprise, the circuit is a state-of-the-art modern facility. Looking from above, one can see that the course is laid out to resemble the first Chinese character in the word ”Shanghai. ” The track itself is wide, with a smooth surface, and one long straight that extends a total of 1.2km. The severe R between the first and third corners means a heavy strain on both driver and tires.

2007 race schedule
2006 grand prix
The 16th race of 2006 was the Chinese GP, held on October 1. Both Ralf and Jarno were off the pace during qualifying, and started P16 and P17 on the grid, respectively. Both drivers struggled with the wet surface during the initial stage of the race, unable to increase their pace, and becoming tied up in traffic. The team made the decision to change over to dry tires early in the race, but the tires weren't matched to conditions on the course, and neither Jarno nor Ralf could move up. In the end, Jarno dropped out of the race on lap 38 with engine trouble. Ralf encountered hydraulic system problems on lap 49, making it a double-retirement for the team.
