The First-Ever F1 Race Under the Lights
The 15th race of 2008 will be the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, also the first F1 race ever to be held at night. Naturally, practice and qualifying will also be held under the lights. Special lighting equipment will be installed around the course, even in the run-off areas. A street course in the fashion of a Monaco or Valencia, the GP will offer a combination of new and unknown elements to team and driver alike. The course will feature near–right–angle turns as well as some looping corners, and is expected to challenge both braking and accelerating performance. Although the race will be run at night, the hot Singapore summer evenings will ensure that the track doesn’t cool down too much, but being a street course consisting of public roads, we can expect the circuit to be slippery. We expect Jarno and Timo to turn in strong performances.
