The Final Leg of the Autumn Asian Round
The Chinese Grand Prix will be the 17th race of the season, set at the ultra–modern Shanghai International Circuit. Looking from directly above, the Shanghai course resembles the first Chinese character in the city’s name. The track is wide and smooth, with a long straight of 1.2km. The R of the first three corners is extremely heavy, placing a strain on both drivers and tires. It will be interesting to see how teams deal with the quickly changing weather patterns in Shanghai. Late in the season, this race is sure to feature heated battles for the season title and championship points. We expect Jarno and Timo will also be fighting hard in Shanghai.
2007 grand prix The 2007 Chinese GP was the 16th race of the year, held on October 7. Feeling the effects of an approaching typhoon, the race started under unsettled weather. Starting from P6 on the grid, Ralf looked to move up in position, but lost several spots after spinning immediately after the start of the race. Jarno started from P12, and climbed as high as P9 at one point during the race, but his overtaking efforts were hampered by the rain, and Jarno finished at P13. While Ralf drove a tremendous race, the rain fell immediately after the team decided to switch to dry weather tires. Ralf spun out, and was then forced to retire from the race.
