The car is forged in the crucible of the road.

The car is forged in the crucible of the road.
That’s what Morizo, the Master Driver, learned at Nürburgring.
As the contest between road and car unfolds around the world, the car is tempered, honed, strengthened.
With the roads on which they race as the stage, our cameras caught the thrilling experience of real speed as drivers vied for supremacy with every move.

GR YARIS × GRAVEL
In WRC Rally Finland, cars streak across unpaved roads as if they were tarmac. Peppered with heart-stopping jumps at dizzying speeds, the circuit tests the courage of the most seasoned drivers.
Aerodynamic grip and suspension response when cornering immediately after a jump are vital in this race.
TAKAMOTO
KATSUTA

Throughout my racing career, the roads of Finland have forged me, and they have forged the car. Whatever position it’s in when it’s airborne, the car lands and keeps going as if nothing happened. The video tells the tale.

WRC Driver. Since joining the TGR WRC Challenge Program in 2015, Takamoto Katsuta has steadily developed his skills step by step. He made his debut in the top category of the FIA World Rally Championship at Rally Deutschland in 2020. From 2023, he became a full-time member of the regular team lineup, contributing to the team’s Manufacturers’ Championship, including a third-place podium finish at Rally Finland. Continuing as a regular driver beyond 2024, Katsuta remains focused on new challenges, aiming for his first WRC victory in the 2026 season.
GR010 × BUMPY TARMAC
Endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans include city streets, with all the undulations and bumps that entails. Cars drive and even turn corners on these roads at top speeds. These conditions turn the usual logic of motor-car racing on its head. Instead of minimizing vehicle height, these cars are built to outperform when the roads are most rugged.
KAMUI
KOBAYASHI

Road conditions here are so harsh that about half of cars that race on tarmac can’t handle them. These are roads that truly tests the cars. And because cars will continue to drive on all kinds of roads, their results can be used to fine-tune vehicle production and settings. I’ve come to appreciate the subtleties and complexities of how racing cars and passenger cars are made.

WEC Driver. Kamui Kobayashi has competed full-time in the FIA World Endurance Championship since 2016. In the 2019–2020 season, he claimed four victories to secure his first championship title. He achieved his first overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021. From 2022, Kobayashi has also served as Team Principal, playing a key role in securing the Manufacturers’ Championship. In 2025, as the driver of the No. 7 car, he claimed his first victory of the season at the final round in Bahrain, helping the team finish second in the Manufacturers’ standings.
GR HILUX × DESERT
Off-road driving like no driver has experienced before. As they traverse sand banks one and two meters tall, the cars rage and buck, requiring finely honed accelerator handling. Racing along these roads takes a toll on the cars. Sometimes it breaks them. But each tribulation tempers the cars, making them more reliable.
AKIRA
MIURA

I had the feeling of becoming at one with the car. The car communicated to me what the surroundings are like an what condition the car was in. I’d like viewers to pay particular attention to the suspension, how it stretches and then compresses again.

Rally-Raid Driver. After joining Toyota Auto Body in 2005, Akira Miura began competing in the Dakar Rally as a navigator in 2007. Following two victories in the production vehicle category, he made his debut as a driver in 2016. Since claiming his first production class victory as a driver in 2018, he has gone on to achieve a total of five wins, contributing significantly to Team Land Cruiser’s record of 12 consecutive class victories. While serving as the team’s lead driver at the Dakar Rally, Miura also works as a Toyota Auto Body employee and is involved in the development of the Land Cruiser series.
GR GT3 × BANKED CURVE
Cars are constantly pushed and pulled by lateral forces and acceleration/deceleration in the longitudinal direction, while banks apply vertical forces that press them downward. As forces act on their cars from every direction, drivers control their cars so the weight of the vehicles is communicated through the tires to the road. Out of repeated trials on banks, batteries of endurance tests and tests overseas, the GR GT3 was born.
HIROAKI
ISHIURA

The GR GT (racing alongside the GR GT3) serves up all the speed and acceleration of a true racing car, electrifying the five senses with thrills and heart-pounding excitement as only a real racing car can.

Racing Driver. Hiroaki Ishiura began his racing career in karting and went on to compete for many years in SUPER FORMULA and SUPER GT. He captured the SUPER FORMULA Drivers’ Championship titles in both 2015 and 2017. After concluding his career in the SUPER GT GT500 class at the end of the 2025 season, he now serves as a development driver for the GR GT and GR GT3. From the 2026 season, he will compete in the GT300 class.
TATSUYA
KATAOKA

Cars are built for the conditions in which they’re driven. The best case is a car that outperforms in any situation. I hope this video is as much fun for you to watch as it was for us to make it.

Racing Driver. Tatsuya Kataoka launched his career in karting and has since competed across a wide range of racing categories, including the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship and SUPER GT. He has achieved championship titles in both the GT500 and GT300 classes. Currently competing in the GT300 class, he also serves as a development driver for the GR GT and GR GT3. In addition, Kataoka is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of drivers as the Principal of the TGR-DC Racing School (TGR-DC RS).
