TOYOTA GAZOO Racing believes "On the road we learn how to make ever-better cars." 5 Continents Drive Project was formulated to put this maxim to the test. Starting from 2014 with milestone to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Toyota employees will be hitting the open road and crossing five continents. Their mission explore potential product improvements more deeply informed and personally involved team members. 

Asia is the last stage of Toyota 5 Continents Drive Project. In February 2019, the team embarked to its starting point: the Middle East. Continuing on, teams will drive east through Asia. As the team of Toyota employees travels the diverse roads, environments and cultures of the region, trying to answer the question: what makes a car “better”?

AFRICA 2018

At the end of August in 2018, Toyota launched the fifth consecutive leg of its 5 Continents Drive Project in Africa.  Charging ahead with the theme "Discover and learn from Africa," Toyota drivers will take on Africa's roadways as they pursue our goal of creating ever better cars.

Europe 2017

In August 2017, the fourth year of Toyota’s Five Continents Drive Project, drivers charged across the European continent seeking to discover the secrets of vehicles manufactured in Europe, the birth place of car culture, and to meet the high expectations of customers worldwide.
The Drive allows Toyota to compile and analyze real-time driving data, which cannot be obtained on test courses, facilitating a system for producing “ever better cars.” In 85 days, the Drive covered approximately 21,000 kilometers.

Latin America 2016

In the summer of 2016, the Latin American leg of Toyota’s Five Continents Drive project got off to a blazing start in Brazil. Drivers traversed the Andes Mountains of Chili, Peru and Bolivia, continuing through Argentina and Uruguay as winter approached. In 78 days, the team of 118 drivers covered some 20,413 kilometers in 16 different cars.

North America 2015

The North American leg of the project started in Summer 2015 in the state of Texas. The expedition then went to the East Coast and across America, passing through Canada and Mexico. In the winter of that year, the project drove through Canada and Alaska. The 140 person team drove about 28,000km in 109 days, driving 23 different types of cars.

Australia 2014

The 2014 Australian leg of project came to a
successful end after 72 days of driving Australian
roads, circling the continent and starting and
finishing in Melbourne, where the TMCA (Toyota
Motor Corporation Australia) production plant is
located. 80 team members drove 13 cars throughout
Australia, which is said to boast 80% of the
world’s most demanding roads.
