2013 Dakar Rally Completes Entire Schedule

Report

On January 20, the 2013 Dakar Rally held a final podium ceremony in Santiago, the capital of Chile and completed the entire 16 day event.
During this event, the competitors covered a route exceeding 8,000 km in 14 days from Lima, Peru to Santiago, Chile via Argentina. Although there were disturbances, such as two cancellations of special stages (SS) in the middle due to heavy rainfall, 67% (299/449) of the vehicles on the start list in Lima made it to the finish.
124 motorcycle riders, 26 quad drivers, 89 car crews and 60 truck crews paraded on the podium set up in front of Palacio de la Moneda in central Santiago, and the President of the Republic congratulated the winners of the 2013 Dakar Rally. The crews waved their hands in response to the spectators who were also congratulating them.
In the car category, Stéphane Peterhansel (#302) in a Mini won for the second consecutive year. Giniel De Villiers (#301) of TOYOTA Imperial SA Dakar Team finished second overall, even though he made every effort to catch up in the final stage. Regrettably he could not win; however, the speed and high reliability of the HILUX pickup was proven.
In the production group, privateer Xavier Foj (#340) in a Land Cruiser Prado celebrated a consecutive championship (overall 27th ranking), and Nicolas Gibon (#343) of Team Toyota Auto Body in a Land Cruiser 200 recorded a good time every day towards the end. However, ultimately he was unable to take the lead with a slight difference of 13 minutes and 9 seconds, and finished 2nd (overall 28th ranking) in the production group.
