2009 Season Overview
The SUPER GT is the most popular motor sport series in Japan. The Lexus team entered five SC430 cars in the GT500 class. In the second race of the season at Suzuka, the No. 38 CERUMO car and the No. 36 TOM’S car finished 1-2. In the sixth race at Suzuka, a TDP driver combination in the No. 35 KRAFT car accomplished a pole-to-win victory. The No. 36 car continued to threaten a top finish during the season, finally capturing the checkered flag in the 8th race of the season at AUTOPOLIS. Only five points behind the leader going into the final race at Motegi, the No. 36 car finished P2, winning a come-from-behind title in dramatic fashion. The Lexus SC430 has been competing in the SUPER GT since 2006, winning not only its first drivers’ title since its debut year, but also scoring a double victory by helping win the team title as well. In the GT300 class, Toyota was represented by two Lexus IS350 models and two Toyota Corolla Axio models. The No. 19 BANDOH Lexus IS350 won the first race of the season, and continued to finish near the top to bring home the first-ever title for the model. Lexus won both the drivers’ and team titles in the GT300 class, making a clean sweep in all of the 2009 titles that were up for grabs.
