The 8th round of the WEC series at the Shanghai International Circuit

Two weeks after TOYOTA Racing’s jubilant home win at Fuji Speedway, the WEC series will meet the final round of the 2012 season in Shanghai.

The Shanghai International Circuit, featuring a 5.451km-long course, opened in 2004 and is located at about an hour drive from the heart of Shanghai. The layout is inspired from the Chinese character of “Shang” from “Shang-hai”, meaning “upper” or “above”. The circuit is best known as the venue for the annual Formula One Grand Prix.

The track has a long straight and a variety of corners that is fast, medium-fast and slow, making the balance work considerably hard to optimize. The 13th corner in particular with some bank in-between demands great challenge from the driver.

TOYOTA Racing, having marked two victories in its debut season, announced Alex Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre would be at the wheel of TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID for the final round of WEC.

There is nothing to worry though as the Austrian-French duo was an element of success at the 5th round in Sao Paulo. The engine updated prior to the 7th round at Fuji would be another positive factor for TOYOTA Racing to fight against its rivals at Shanghai. The THS-R system, that has shown strong performance in the previous races, fits well on the Shanghai’s track layout.

The race starts on Sunday, 28 October at 11:00am local time. TOYOTA Racing hopes to win again in order to bring its debut season to a successful conclusion.
