The Melbourne street course hosts the opening race of the season!
The stage for the first race of the 2007 Formula 1 World Championship is Australia's Albert Park Circuit. Due to a scheduling conflict last year with the Commonwealth Games, the Australian GP was delayed until the third race of 2006, but the race is back to its traditional spot as the season opener. The Albert Park Circuit is an unusual course, incorporating public streets in some sections, and demanding proper car compatibility for strong race results. It will be interesting to see how each team deals with the new tire rules.

2007 race schedule
2006 grand prix
The Australian GP was the third race of the 2006 season, held on April 2, 2006. It turned out to be quite a rough affair, with the safety car coming onto the course on four separate occasions. Jarno, starting the race from P9 on the grid, bumped into another car on the first lap, knocking himself out of the race. Meanwhile, Ralf started from P6, but lost position due to a penalty for speeding on pit lane. He fought back, gaining position steadily, and ultimately finishing third. It was the first podium finish of the 2006 season for Panasonic Toyota Racing.
