How will the First-Ever Valencia Race Develop?
The second race of the season to be held in Spain will be the 12th race of the 2008 series, the “European GP,” slated for Valencia, a city looking out over the Mediterranean Sea. Valencia has a permanent racing circuit, but the European GP will be conducted on a specially constructed street course. The course will consist of 25 corners, average speeds in excess of 200km/h, and an expected top speed over 300km/h. With segments running next to a luxury yacht harbor, the course bears a resemblance to Monaco, but the wider streets are likely to allow for more overtaking opportunities. A bridge crossing the yacht harbor is part of the course layout, providing greater thrills to an already thrilling race. The key to this race will be how teams can overcome the difficulties of racing on a new circuit for the first time. We’ll keep our eyes on Jarno–a street course specialist. We also look forward to seeing Timo’s talents on display.
