The First Race After Le Mans

After two months-long interval from the fierce battle at the 80th 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is back to the battlefield. The stage of the 6-hour race is the Silverstone circuit located between the border of Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire. The legend-rich racing venue founded far back in 1948 has hosted various kinds of major competitions including Formula One Championship events, and thus been famously dubbed as the Home of British Motor Racing. Silverstone had also hosted the 6-hour endurance races both in 2010 and 2011 as a part of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) series that is now transformed to the WEC series.

In 2012, TOYOTA will make a dramatic comeback to The 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time since 1999 with its all-new racing car. The purpose-build hybrid challenger is named TS030 HYBRID in accordance with the company's racing tradition; the codename "TS" proudly stands for "TOYOTA Sport".

Having been built on the site of a Royal Air Force airfield, Silverstone circuit is distinguished with its flat layout. It was known as an ultra-fast track, however, since the 1990s, the track has undergone major redesigns consequently making the circuit turning into more technical track with a mixture of medium and high speed corners. There are also slower sections that require a fast exit speed. This should enable TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID to make the most of its advantages.

A Single TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID Challenges the Audi Corps

The 4th round of the WEC in Silverstone, the 6 Hours of Silverstone, is TOYOTA RACING's 2nd race after its Le Mans debut. TOYOTA RACING plan to attend all the remaining rounds of the WEC. The remaining 5 rounds are all 6-hour races, and this will mark a new beginning.

TOYOTA RACING will bring a single TS030 HYBRID car driven by Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima, who all have been involved in the development of this hybrid project.

As for the Audi counter part whom the TOYOTA hybrid regime fought against at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 2-car entry consisting of a hybrid car, Audi R18 e-tron quattro driven by three Le Mans winners, and the R18 ultra which uses the TDI turbocharged diesel engine would take up the gauntlet. These 3 cars, a TS030 HYBRID and two Audis, ought to be the center of the battle for victory in the LMP1 class.

TOYOTA's Prospects for their First 6-hour Trial

At the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID cars showed equal speed with Audis and one of the TS030s led the race after five hours from the start. Unfortunately, a number of incidents and troubles had put both cars into retirement. Valuable lessons were learnt from this bitter reverse which will definitely be exploited at the 6 Hours of Silverstone, fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

As one of TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID cars (#7) had a trouble-free run for the first 6 hours in Le Mans, the world is paying high attention to TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID for its renewed performance in the 6-hour race in Silverstone. Although TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID yielded the palm to Audis in Le Mans, their challenge has only just been instigated.
