The GR Supra is scheduled to be rolled out around the world starting this spring. However, as it will require ongoing development to refine the car even after its launch, TGR is planning to enter it in the 24 Hours Nürburgring on June 20-23.
A total of 193 vehicles were entered for VLN 3. The GR Supra was in the SP8T Class. Using the model scheduled for public sale as a base, the safety equipment, tires, and so on required for racing were added. The GR Supra steering wheel, extremely close to that which will be offered to the public, was taken by Hisashi Yabuki1 and Herwig Daenens2.
GR Supra entered VLN 2 which was held two weeks ago, but it was snowed just before the start, and the red flag was interrupted in the middle of the second lap. Since it was canceled, VLN3 is the first race for GR Supra in this year.
The formation lap of VLN3 started at 12pm, in the rain condition. After the green signal, Yabuki made laps in the middle of 11 minutes to the middle of 12 minutes constantly, even the top speed was limited to 60 km/h in some point of Nordschleife because of many crashes under heavy rains.
After the driver was changed to Daenens, the GR Supra continued its smooth laps and reached around 10 minutes in the rain condition. And completed its race without any troubles.
Lexus LC which is 2nd time participation on VLN in this year, was taken by Naoya Gamo and Yuichi Nakayama. LC started from 52nd position and went up to 35th, but forced to be in the pit for more than 20 minutes to manage with the transponder trouble, in the middle of the race. The LC finished its race finally but also faced to manage some issues to solve for the next race.
TGR's GR Supra and Lexus LC are scheduled to take part in QF race next, and after the qualifying race ends on May 19, will start the 24 Hours Nürburgring in June.
